i pilot Cataphracts only for the most part. 1x and 3d mostly. might be stepping up to a highlander when the common folk versions are released. anyway Ive noticed alot more recently my armor is getting stripped way too fast. i took 2 ppc hits to my left torso that completely stripped my armor first hit of the game... and yellowed my rear left torso. before that in the previous game i got hit by 2 gauss shots at the same time center torso and lost all my armor. both were dead front hits and also showed damage in the rear.. ughhh

I too pilot Cataphracts, mostly the 3D. I have noticed that I'm going down a lot faster lately, but have been hesitant to say anything about it. Recently I decked out a 2X and a 4X (not great at remembering the nomenclatures, so I could be wrong) and figured I was doing worse all around because I was switching play styles with the different versions (One is a striker the other is my Davion Dakka Mech). But maybe I'm not so crazy if someone else is feeling it too. I do have some theories though.

1. As I said before, I figured I was mixing up my fighting styles. I was strictly 3D for a long time, and I do use it as a brawler to very good effect. When I started mixing it up with my close range striker and Davion Dakka mech, I figured that I was changing up my pilot style too much and suffering for it.

2. With the LRM nerf, a lot more pilots are using ballistics and other brawling weapons. I'm not the force that I used to be since so many others are using similar weapons. I think that this one may be a large portion of what the "problem" is.

Since I've noticed this "weakening" of my 'Phract, I've started playing even more careful than usual, and while it's fixed the issue some, I totally feel what you're talking about. I kind of hope that it's an armor issue, as I'd hate to think that I've started losing any skill I've developed.

3. I'm playing Defiance, Bioshock, and XCOM all at the same time as MWO, and my piloting may be suffering...but I don't think this one applies to you. :P

This is because of all the alpha builds. 4 llas and 3 ppc really hurt when they pinpoint, and 6 llas and 6 ppc pretty much instantly destroys all armor on any non CT section and then some.

I agree with you guys. It really feels like I'm getting slugged a lot more lately. I'll have one guy launching LRM's at me with the rest firing ballistics/lasers/PPC's, when before there were more firing LRM's, so I was able to high tail out of there with only half the damage I'm receiving now. Time to adjust tactics. I think I'll start calling them "Patchtics".

yea i really dont know.. except that im Glad im not the only one, i was a little hesitant to post as well. ive also had to start playing a lot more carefully. not an entirely bad thing but sometimes frustrating. ive also had to, out of necessity up the engine in my phracts to 300std's so i can move around a little faster to spread damage. my armor is setup 48/12 , 76/12 , 48/12 for torso so my question is how can a 20 dmg double ppc shot deplete 48 armor or a double 30 dmg double gauss shot deplete 76 armor. just seems like something has happened or changed . i dont know if it has anything to do with it but both times i have pulled forward to take a shot, "STOPED" and got hit. so i dont know if the fact i was stationary for that brief second has something to do with the overwhelming damage i took for those couple shots. but also in general i feel i am going down alot easier and ive been playing non stop for the past few months my skills are definitely improving. i posed my first 1000 damage a couple nights ago with 6 kills in my 1x 1LL,4ml,1gauss

How do you know it was 2 PPCs? The damage list shows only sources not amount. And if the ports are close together they may look as one PPC. Or sometimes multiple weapons use the same port and thus you cannot see that they are multiple weapons.

i really just think the damage readout needs to update alot faster then it does. you get shot by something, and then it flashes red for about 20 seconds and then updates the damage. its pretty easy during this delay to get hit several more times and thus makes it look like 2 ppcs took out your armor

because they were fired for a poptarting cataphract 3d each mounted in the torso, i also saw them fired. and on top of that i eneded up in a brawl with him and he had 2 ML in the arms and 2 ppc's in the torso. the gauss shots im not so sure but they were from a catapult.

i do agree with this. but in my case both these instances were in the beginning of the game at a standoff of 600m or so noone else firing.

I pilot phracts almost exclusively, and I've been noticing something similar.

Now, all my mechs are configured to have minimal rear armour, so I have almost 80 tons of front armour on my CT. In quite a few matches I've seen it go from no damage to yellow internals in the amount of time it takes to fire a single volley of PPC's. Now, this can't be a single 6PPC stalker, because that only does 60 damage right?

Besides, in one of the instances, I didn't hear the PPC sound before I died. In fact, I pulled up against an atlas and was about to start firing when I suddenly died. No enemies behind, and no damage on my rear as usual. CT cored completely.

I am quite new pilot of phract but generally phract is much more "damage-proof" then my firs HBK.
In my opinion everything is ok.
I've been died two times without any damage when I was shooting out of bound :P

Have seen a incident or two of something like that for sure. Got hit with a 2 Gauss Pract in Caustic and lost all (then fresh armor) to my left torso and it went internal, and I do not run with only 20 front. But eh, like I said before, there are only a few times I can say something fishy is going on.

Simple answer.

The hitboxes on the heavy's and Assaults work as intended. Probably because of the simpler geometry on most.

Isn't Beta grand?

oh hai guise.

first post here.
have been a lurker from the start.

i just want to second this topic cause all i pilot are cataphracts since its introduction.
i noticed getting killed like OP after the LRM nerf patch...

seriously... i feel our heavy bretheren: the jaeger mech outlast us longer.
considering they take most hit on the 3 torso because of the size of their arms... i feel i die quicker by a big margin...!

devs. please look into this.

regards and thanks. :P

I have definitely noticed a reduction in my survivability in the Ilya. I had been attributing it to an increase in ppc/guass set ups. I just seem to go down much more easily now.
